Hosking pledges $4 million for Rochester Reserve
The Nationals candidate for Murray Plains, Brett Hosking, watched by Opposition leader Jess Wilson, talks about the $4 million funding.

The Nationals candidate for Murray Plains, Brett Hosking, has renewed a Nationals Liberals pledge from the last Federal election to invest $4 million in a major upgrade of clubrooms and changerooms at Rochester Recreation Reserve.

Brett joined Victorian Opposition leader Jess Wilson at Monday’s announcement at the home of Rochester Football Netball Club.

He says the $4 million – which is guaranteed when the Nationals and Liberals form government after the November election – particularly targets:

  1. New social rooms at the complex, which will not only serve sporting teams, but which will also double as a vital community asset as a community relief centre during emergencies.
  2. Improved disability access across the reserve, to complement the work the Rochester FNC has already done.
  3. Bigger and better change rooms for men’s and women’s teams.

“Rochester Football Netball Club will be the driving force behind this project as I suspect we might need a bit more money to get all the work necessary across the whole reserve completed,” Brett says.

“But the club already has an amazing fundraising track record – even now it has a massive program on the go with its Toyota Prado giveaway, a raffle where second prize is a $25,000 travel voucher,” he says.

“Here’s a club which always aims high when it comes to getting things done.”

Rochester FNC president Justin Cleary says his club has been running significant ongoing fundraising efforts, including an annual major raffle.

He says while the club, and the whole town, are looking forward to receiving the $4 million, it is not letting any grass grow under its feet.

Recent improvements include new LED ground lighting and the new electronic scoreboard, the addition of an all-abilities toilet to the existing, older social rooms and at the weekend the official opening of its netball court upgrades.
