Niall scoops the pool in golf championship

Frankie Niall has blitzed the Western Riverina District Rich River Golf Club Open Tournament – taking out both the men’s and junior scratch titles.

He was competing against a strong field of competitors who made the most of the excellent winter playing conditions and beautifully presented West Course.

In the Men’s A Grade Scratch Championship Niall finished with a brilliant one-under-par 70, also securing the Junior Scratch title in an impressive double victory.

The Men’s A Grade Scratch runner-up was Lachlan Kelly, who finished with an even-par 71, narrowly winning the title on a countback from D’Arcy Whyte and Vincent Kelly.

Billy Driscoll produced the best nett score in A Grade with an outstanding 67 from a gross score of 73.

The Women’s A Grade Scratch Championship provided one of the highlights of the day, with Nacole Horneman defeating Charlie Matthew in a playoff after both players returned rounds of 86.

Marcia Spiers claimed the Women’s A Grade Nett title with 78 from a gross score of 93.

In Men’s B Grade, Steve McCoomb won the scratch title with his 81, while Brett Farlie recorded an excellent 67 nett from a gross score of 82.

The Women’s B Grade Scratch winner was Alma Fonda with 96, while Hayley Shanahan claimed the nett honours with a 74 from a gross score of 100.

Men’s C Grade honours went to Jack Grillen, who captured the scratch title with 89, while Adrian ‘Sooty’ Sanderson took out the nett event with 74, from a gross score of 92.

The junior events showcased some outstanding young talent.

In addition to winning the Open, Frankie Niall claimed the junior title with his exceptional round of 70 while Hunter Reid finished runner-up with 73 and Jack McGillen took out the junior nett title with 68 nett from a gross score of 89.
